Every year many families take a vacation and travel somewhere away from home. Whether their travel be in close proximity or many miles away, they still consider it a vacation. So what REALLY goes into a vacation? One has the pre-planning, the planning, and the post-planning. The pre-planning includes: finding a place to vacation, booking the vacation, the transportation, the activities to accomodate the vacation, and lastly the dreadful budget. The planning includes: the packing, the schedule/day of departure and arrival, and how many stops will be taken between the beginning of your trip and the arrival. The post-planning includes: dealing with the stress of the budget, replenishing the budget, and getting back to your everyday routine. Do all of these things sound like a vacation? When you break down a vacation into terms of this, it makes vacation seem like work and that's what you are trying to get away from.
It's interesting thinking of a vacation as something that could create more stress in your life rather than help to be a stress reliever, which is generally what vacations are supposed to be. I could see how they would be very stressful, especially if there are a lot of people going, or if there are a lot of things at home that will have to be taken care of when you're gone. However, isn't part of going stress relief on vacation mentally-based? If you find yourself in a negative, stress-oriented mentality, of course the vacation is going to be stressful... what if you decide you're going to enjoy your time on vacation no matter what and are determined to have a positive attitude? It's just like going into anything else in life, if you have a positive attitude about things, you're more likely to have a positive experience. For example, when my family took a cruise through Europe, my little brother was rather negative about everything. He had been studying abroad before our trip and was ready to go home, but me and my parents decided to ignore his negativity and do the best we could to enjoy everything we did, and eventually we pulled my brother out of his negative attitude and everyone enjoyed the trip very much. Maybe there are different ways to go about scheduling a vacation that can make it less stressful? My family hired a travel agent that handled a lot of things for us. Maybe there are other tactics that could be implemented to minimize the amount of stress created by planning a family vacation as well.
ReplyDeleteI think that vacations do cause a lot of stress. Especially since a big reason why people are trying to leave is because of just that STRESS! I am not sure what the solution to this would be though because it seems to just be a never ending circle. One thing that I would think would help is to allow plenty of time to plan. It is insane to think about the stress that goes into a stress reliever!
ReplyDeleteI wrote this blog and after I have reread through this I think that vacation is a job in itself. The whole process of going on a vacation can be less exciting and more overwhelming. Not all vacations are awful, many come pass to be fun and exciting but it's so much work and effort that in the end all you think about is the money spent and time lost that could have been contributing to other well needed things.
